Creating Jobs and Opportunities for Youth

Ontario Government Offering Valuable Work Experience to Young People:

Ontario is helping young people across the province gain new skills while earning an income this summer.

Through the province’s Jobs for Youth program and Youth in Policing Initiative, over 4,300 young people will gain valuable work experience that will better prepare them to join the workforce. Both programs provide young people ages 15-18 with training, a six to eight week paid placement and job search training for future employment opportunities.

Providing young people with the skills and work experience to succeed, supports the Ontario government’s efforts to create a fair and prosperous society and help people in their everyday lives.

Quick Facts

  • The Jobs for Youth program pairs at-risk and/or disadvantaged young people with jobs at businesses and non-for-profit agencies in their communities.
  • The Youth in Policing Initiative helps build relationships between police and young people, while encouraging youth to consider a career in policing.
  • As part of the 2013 Ontario Budget, the province is establishing a Youth Jobs Strategy to create jobs and mentorship opportunities for about 30,000 youth, and promote entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • The province’s youth employment rose by over 20,000 jobs in May 2013.
