Office of the Premier, March 18, 2014 – Government Increasing Skilled Labour Force, Creating Jobs: Today Premier Kathleen Wynne hosted representatives from the business, labour and academic communities for Ontario’s first summit on Talent and Skills in the New Economy. She challenged participants to commit to implement one new initiative that will contribute to skills and talent development in the province.

At the summit, Premier Wynne announced two projects under Ontario’s new $25 million Youth Skills Connections fund. George Brown College and Ryerson University will use the investment to partner with business and labour to deliver specialized programs that will prepare 212 young people for jobs in the food, metal manufacturing and information communications technology sectors.

The summit focused on building partnerships and fostering collaboration across the education, business, labour and non-profit sectors to ensure the province’s economy remains prosperous and competitive. It is part of the government’s plan to ensure Ontario’s skilled labour force is prepared for the changing labour market.

Increasing Ontario’s skilled labour force is part of the government’s economic plan that is creating jobs for today and tomorrow. The comprehensive plan and its six priorities focus on Ontario’s greatest strengths — its people and strategic partnerships.
