Toronto Hydro – Business Conservation Programs – Audit Funding
This Program offers financial incentives to eligible business owners and tenants towards the cost of an energy audit to help prioritize the best opportunities to reduce energy costs. The audits provide businesses with the data needed to fully understand the financial benefits of installing a variety of energy-efficient measures. Funding is provided for up to 50 percent of the project cost where calculations are based on building size and audit complexity, and ranges from $5,000-$35,000.
Demand Response Contractual DR3: This Program is designed to help manage the electricity needs of Ontario while also providing Ontario businesses a financial incentive to make energy management a part of everyday operations. For example, a facility could shed load by powering down non-critical equipment or shifting production to non-peak periods. Participation can take place in two different ways: a voluntary, flexible way to earn monthly payments or higher incentive rates in return for a mandatory commitment to take part in activation notices.
Existing Building Commissioning
This Program provides incentives ranging from $2,500 to $30,000 to owners or lessees of chilled water systems located in commercial, institutional or multi-family buildings, in order to help cover the costs to:
- hire an expert to analyze the chilled water system and recommend measures to help increase its energy efficiency
- buy and install metering and monitoring equipment, and
- implement the recommended measures.
High Performance New Construction
This Program offers incentives to building owners and design decision-makers (architects, engineers, consultants, etc.) to build beyond Ontario Building Code requirements. The program targets new construction and major renovations in the planning stages and provides design assistance and substantial financial incentives for building owners and architects who exceed the electricity efficiency specified in the Ontario Building Code.
Process & Systems Upgrade Program
This Program provides design assistance and financial incentives for building owners and architects who exceed the electricity efficiency standards specified in the Ontario Building Code. Building owners will receive up to $400 for every kilowatt saved for lighting measures and up to $800 for every kilowatt saved for non-lighting projects, or up to $75 per multi-residential in-suite appliance. They are also eligible to receive up to 100% of the cost of modelling a building or addition.
This Program provides financial incentives for replacing existing equipment with high-efficiency equipment and for installing new control systems that will improve the efficiency of operational procedures and processes. Eligible measures under the program are those that provide sustainable, measurable and verifiable reductions in peak electricity demand and/or electricity consumption, including lighting retrofits, lighting controls, HVAC redesign, chiller replacement, increased insulation, installation of high performance windows and frames or low emissive roof barriers. Incentives include
- up to $400 for every kilowatt saved for lighting measures and
- up to $800 for every kilowatt saved for non-lighting projects
Small Business Lighting
This Program offers small businesses a free assessment to identify possible energy savings, up to $1,500 of energy-efficient lighting retrofits – including all equipment and labour, and access to additional incentives. The three simple steps include assessing the business’ needs, identifying the options and installing the upgrades.
