Overdo with accessories!
The easiest and very often affordable way to add bohemian style to your wardrobe is with artful, attention-grabbing accessories. Accessories to wear with your boho outfit. When the style icon Coco Chanel said: “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory” she didn’t mean bohemian style.
Invest in statement accessories
Essential fashion accessories can transform an ordinary outfit into an extraordinary one. Remember, you don’t have to spend a lot on your outfit as long as you have some amazing accessories to polish off your look. Accessories are very important to your overall look. You are likely to be drawn to designer handbags, sunglasses, statement jewelry, and brightly-coloured scarves.
Make an entrance
When you enter the room, you have a certain presence. Add extra glamour with your gold shoes or oversized sunglasses.
Get fashionable sunglasses
You would be amazed at how sunglasses can turn up the glam factor. Sunglasses are very important accessory that add personal style to virtually any ordinary outfit. Always carry a pair of sunglasses with you!
Get statement jewelry
Mix exotic patterns. Wear layers of long necklaces. Jewelry is an essential accessory with limitless styles and options. Remember that putting on some statement jewellery can instantly lift your entire outfit. Choosing inexpensive jewellery can be tricky: pick darker metals than shiny ones, have some weight rather than light and flimsy, get clear crystals over plastic gemstones. Layer necklaces to add boho style to any simple outfit. Try wearing long, statement-making earrings, wrap a tie-dyed scarf, or add a stack of ethnic inspired bracelets to your ensemble.
Go for belts
Being most essential accessories, belts add a unique look to whatever you’re wearing.
Wear scarves
A great scarf is such a versatile item! It can serve as the splash of colour your outfit needs, or do double duty as a headband or turban. Have as many scarves as you can and don’t bother with a neutral tone!
Don’t be afraid of hats
Wide brimmed and fedora hats and bold jewelry communicate a bohemian sensibility. Wear a hat to add whimsy, or on a bad hair day, or when it’s really sunny outside. With the huge amount of hat styles and colours available, every woman can look fabulously chic in a hat.
Leggings, tights and socks
When accessorizing, this category is often overlooked. But some leggings under a dress or a beautiful pair of tights can instantly add some personality to your outfit.
Pay attention to texture
Pay attention to texture in your outfits including sequins, lace, leather, cashmere and faux fur.
Get a hobo bag
This style of purse is called a hobo bag because it resembles the shape of the bindle on a stick that hobos are portrayed as carrying over their shoulder in drawings and cartoons. The hobo bag is a style of handbag or purse that is typically large and characterized by a crescent shape, a slouchy posture and a long strap designed to wear over the shoulder. Hobo bags are made out of soft, flexible materials and tend to slump, or slouch, when set down. There are many different sizes and shapes of this staple bohemian accessory.
Get ankle booties
Cute ankle booties are boho girl fashion staples, and luckily, they come in a million styles. Also, there is a million of ways to wear them. Ankle boots look awesome with dresses and skirts or with flare leg jeans and a loose knit sweater. Wear ankle boots and a (#3) hippie headpiece for a look that’s ideal for class or a casual date. The fringed ankle boots look fab with a slit maxi skirt, off the shoulder top, and a bold stack of bracelets.
Try cowboy boots
Cowboy boots are one of the boho chic style essentials. They have a high heel that is traditionally made of stacked leather, rounded to pointed toe, high shaft, and, traditionally, no lacing. Cowboy boots are normally made from cowhide leather, which may be decoratively hand tooled, but are also sometimes made from “exotic” skins like alligator, snake, ostrich, lizard, eel, elephant, stingray, elk, buffalo, and so on.
There are two basic styles of cowboy boots, western (or classic), and roper. The classic style is distinguished by a tall boot shaft, going to at least mid-calf, with an angled “cowboy” heel, usually over one inch high. A slightly lower, still angled, “walking” heel is also common. The toe of western boots was originally rounded or squared in shape. The narrow pointed toe design appeared in the early 1940s.
A newer design, the “roper” style, has a short boot shaft that stops above the ankle but before the middle of the calf, with a very low and squared-off “roper” heel, shaped to the sole of the boot, usually less than one inch high. Roper boots are usually made with rounded toes. The roper style is also manufactured in a lace-up design which often fits better around the ankle and is less likely to slip off. They usually have some sort of decorative stitching.
Pick some statement gilets
This sleeveless jacket may be waist- to knee-length and is typically straight-sided rather than fitted. Boho chic style gilets may be made of cloth or fake fur, or knitted or they could be embroidered. Gilets are awesome because they add pizzazz to so many different pieces in your closet. Try them with floral mini-dresses, simple maxi dresses, or even a plain t-shirt and cutoffs. Try wearing one with a floral dress, or a pair of flared jeans and a tank. Denim vests look fantastic with pretty much everything in your closet. Try one with a plain v-neck t-shirt, a maxi skirt, and sandals. The combinations are endless! To keep from looking over-the-top, wear a fringe vest with a little black dress, or skinny jeans and a tee.
