March 13, 2015 – Ministry of Finance : Ontario provides eligible individuals and families with a number of Ontario tax credits and benefits through the personal income tax system.

Ontarians must file a tax return to ensure they receive credits and benefits that may be available to them. Individuals and families may be eligible regardless of whether they have received social assistance or did not earn any income in 2014. Some of the Ontario tax credits and benefits available include:

  • Ontario Child Benefit
  • Ontario Guaranteed Annual Income System
  • Children’s Activity Tax Credit
  • Ontario Senior Homeowners’ Property Tax Grant
  • Ontario Trillium Benefit
  • Healthy Homes Renovation Tax Credit

Ontario’s tax system supports the province’s programs and investments in education, transportation, health care, infrastructure and skills. It is also a way the government delivers vital financial support to thousands of households each year.

Investing in people through tax credits and benefits is part of the government’s economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people’s talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.

Quick Facts

  • Effective July 2015, the Ontario Child Benefit will be tied to inflation to help low- to moderate-income families keep pace with the costs of raising children. The maximum annual benefit will increase to $1,336 per child per year at this time.
  • The Ontario Senior Homeowners’ Property Tax Grant supports seniors by providing up to $500 a year to help with the cost of their property taxes.
